Talenti emergenti e nuovi designer: GemGenève ospita la creatività contemporanea
Portare all’attenzione del grande pubblico i creatori di nuova tendenza e quelli destinati a intraprendere carriere di successo. È questo l’obiettivo – da sempre – di Nadège Totah, Nadège e Ronny Totah, Mathieu Dekeukelaire, Ida e Thomas Faerber, che hanno trasformato GemGenève nel trampolino di lancio di nuovi talenti. Per l’edizione del 2024, in programma dal 9 al 12 maggio 2024 nel padiglione 1 del Palexpo di Ginevra, il salone internazionale non perde la propria vocazione e nel “villaggio dei creatori” chiama a raccolta i nuovi nomi della gioielleria e gli astri nascenti del settore. Cinque Talenti Emergenti e cinque Nuovi Designer avranno, infatti, la possibilità di esporre i propri gioielli e pezzi di “Haute Joaillerie” e beneficeranno delle stesse condizioni dei professionisti affermati. A questi artisti, capaci di proporre con i loro gioielli un approccio inedito all’arte orafa, GemGenève offre la possibilità di esporre le proprie opere e acquisire visibilità.
MASTERPIECES
Con la categoria Masterpiece, gli organizzatori promuovono la creazione contemporanea e i “Métiers d’Arts”. Lo spazio sarà inaugurato da Alicia Stanska, che ha impiegato più di 3 anni per realizzare il proprio capolavoro: un abito di alta moda a grandezza naturale, incastonato da più di 110mila cristalli Swarovski ricamati a mano, ispirato ad Equilibrium of Powers, cioè “l’equilibrio dei poteri”.
I Talenti Emergenti
La carrellata di talenti emergenti comincia con William Llewellyn Griffiths, australiano. Ogni sua creazione viene definita un mondo in miniatura, perché miscelando influenze barocche, architettura gotica e pietre colorate realizza anelli e orecchini maestosi. Lavora a Melbourne e l’esperienza di Ginevra sarà il suo debutto assoluto in Europa. Con le sue opere celebra la vita e seleziona con cura topazi e smeraldi per realizzare le proprie creazioni.
Il Lavoro dell’ armeno Shavarsh Hakobian è è finalizzato a rappresentare la materia come movimento. Nulla deve essere immobile e ogni opera del gioielliere riproduce questo slancio vitale. Sperimenta anche una varietà di materiali talvolta atipici: il legno, la pelle o il tessuto.
Tra le novità figura anche Villa Milano, che incarna la rinascita del Made in Italy. Alice e Francesca sono riuscite a trasferire freschezza e modernità alla centenaria maison, inserendo nuove collezioni nel brand. È uno stile inedito, creato con materiali non convenzionali: nei gioielli, l’acciaio damasco sublima la purezza dello zaffiro bianco e l’oro nero esalta la morbidezza della tormalina verde menta.
Un altro talento emergente è il cinese Aso Leon. Anche per lui si tratta dell’edizione bis a Ginevra. I suoi gioielli in stile contemporaneo sono ispirati alla flora e alla fauna. Taglia personalmente le gemme che utilizza. A GemGenève il designer presenterà pezzi inediti che combinano titanio e gemme d’eccezione.
Corina Tahuil e Vince Gerardis sono, invece, designer visionari che hanno il proprio quartier generale a Miami e che hanno creato il nuovo marchio statunitense Jaqueline Powers. Per loro i gioielli sono “arte da indossare”, lavorano con le tonalità del bruno e del grigio. Esporranno per la prima volta a Ginevra.
Dai talenti emergenti ai nuovi designer, ecco Xiao Xintong, fondatrice di A.win, una maison cinese. Ha già esposto l’anno scorso a GemGenève e le sue creazioni pop e colorate traggono spunto dai sogni d’infanzia: le spille sembrano caramelle, ci sono gioielli a forma di pistola.
La francese Estelle Lagarde è una designer introdotta all’arte dello smalto in Svizzera, ma anche all’arte della pittura in miniatura. Nel 2023 ha presentato la sua prima collezione con la linea “Nébuleuse Fleurie”, un paio di orecchini a clip che sono un incontro tra eleganza del classicismo e modernità dei materiali. Nella prossima edizione, presenterà la prima linea di gioielli del suo marchio: LAGARDE.
La designer cinese Diana Zhang, una delle figure più promettenti della scena artistica asiatica, considera i gioielli un mezzo per esplorare il significato della vita. È molto meticolosa nella scelta delle gemme ed i tempi di realizzazione delle sue creazioni variano da sei mesi a due anni. È stata la prima gioielliera asiatica a esporre le sue opere alla mitica Biennales des Antiquaires.
Colibrì articolati e pappagalli variopinti, corolle di fiori e ali di farfalla sono alcune delle creazioni realizzate da Diva Jewels, rinomato laboratorio indiano con sede a Mumbai e in attività da 5 decenni. La designer Rishi Mehta, che sarà presente a GemGenève, ha trasformato il laboratorio di famiglia ereditato dal padre in un vero e proprio studio di progettazione e produzione. Realizza gioielli personalizzati o creati su misura con gemme di alta qualità in meno di 15 giorni.
Da Hong Kong proviene Ho Siu Chong, rinomato gioielliere e artista smaltatore che ha fondato il marchio con il proprio nome. I suoi gioielli sono ispirati alla natura e alla bellezza della vita e vengono apprezzati per la qualità di esecuzione. Per l’ottava edizione di GemGenève, presenta pezzi fortemente simbolici, ispirati ad amore e libertà.
Emerging talents and new designers: GemGenève hosts contemporary creativity
Bringing new trendsetters and those destined for successful careers to the attention of the general public. This has always been the aim of Nadège Totah, Nadège and Ronny Totah, Mathieu Dekeukelaire, Ida and Thomas Faerber, who have turned GemGenève into the springboard for talents. For the 2024 edition, scheduled to take place from 9 to 12 May 2024 in Hall 1 of Geneva’s Palexpo, the international show has not lost its vocation and in the ‘village of creators’ it is calling together the new names in jewellery and the rising stars of the industry.
Five Emerging Talents and five New Designers will, in fact, have the opportunity to exhibit their jewellery and “Haute Joaillerie” pieces and will benefit from the same conditions as established professionals. To these artists, whose jewellery offers a novel approach to the goldsmith’s art, GemGenève is offering the opportunity to exhibit their work and gain visibility.
With the Masterpiece category, the organisers promote contemporary creation and the ‘Métiers d’Arts’. The space will be inaugurated by Alicia Stanska, who took more than 3 years to create her masterpiece: a life-size haute couture dress set with more than 110,000 hand-embroidered Swarovski crystals, inspired by Equilibrium of Powers.
The roundup of emerging talents begins with William Llewellyn Griffiths from Australia. Each of his creations is called a world in miniature, as he mixes Baroque influences, Gothic architecture and coloured stones to create majestic rings and earrings. He works in Melbourne and the Geneva experience will be his European debut. With his work he celebrates life and carefully selects topazes and emeralds to make his creations.
The work of Armenian Shavarsh Hakobian is aimed at representing matter as movement. Nothing must be still, and each jeweller’s work reproduces this vital momentum. He also experiments with a variety of sometimes atypical materials: wood, leather or fabric.
New additions include Villa Milano, which embodies the rebirth of Made in Italy. Alice and Francesca have succeeded in transferring freshness and modernity to the century-old maison, adding new collections to the brand. It is a new style, created with unconventional materials: in the jewellery, damascus steel sublimates the purity of white sapphire and black gold enhances the softness of mint green tourmaline.
Another emerging talent is the Chinese Aso Leon. His contemporary-style jewellery is inspired by flora and fauna. He personally cuts the gems he uses. At GemGenève, the designer will present unprecedented pieces combining titanium and exceptional gems.
Corina Tahuil and Vince Gerardis, on the other hand, are visionary designers who are based in Miami and have created the new US brand Jaqueline Powers. For them, jewellery is ‘wearable art’, working with shades of brown and grey. They are exhibiting for the first time in Geneva.
From emerging talents to new designers, here is Xiao Xintong, founder of A.win, a Chinese maison. She already exhibited last year at GemGenève and her pop and colourful creations are inspired by childhood dreams: brooches look like candies, there are jewels shaped like guns.
Estelle Lagarde from France is a designer who was introduced to the art of enamelling in Switzerland, but also to the art of miniature painting. In 2023, she presented her first collection with the ‘Nébuleuse Fleurie’ line, a pair of clip-on earrings that are a meeting of the elegance of classicism and the modernity of materials. In the next edition, she will present her brand’s first jewellery line: LAGARDE.
Chinese designer Diana Zhang, one of the most promising figures on the Asian art scene, sees jewellery as a means of exploring the meaning of life. She is very meticulous in her choice of gems and the time taken to make her creations varies from six months to two years. She was the first Asian jeweller to exhibit her work at the legendary Biennales des Antiquaires.
Articulated hummingbirds and colourful parrots, flower corollas and butterfly wings are some of the creations made by Diva Jewels, a renowned Indian workshop based in Mumbai and in business for five decades. Designer Rishi Mehta, who will be present at GemGenève, has transformed the family workshop she inherited from her father into a full-fledged design and production studio. She makes customised or bespoke jewellery with high-quality gemstones in less than 15 days.
From Hong Kong comes Ho Siu Chong, a renowned jeweller and enamel artist who founded the brand under his own name. His jewellery is inspired by nature and the beauty of life and is appreciated for its quality of execution. For the eighth edition of GemGenève, he presents highly symbolic pieces inspired by love and freedom.
