We asked Roberto Coin, who together with his son Carlo is the creative mind and soul behind this new universe of jewelry, to tell us about the birth of the brand and how it places on the contemporary jewelry market.
Tell us briefly about how and when THE FIFTH SEASON started and where the name comes from.
The Fifth Season by Roberto Coin came to life in 2011 after a long period of evaluating and defining how the missing jewel should be and what was the question stylists still had no answer for. This is where creative research began in the TFS collections by Roberto Coin, the name alone describes something that was not yet there, an extraordinary novelty, as romantic, I think, as a new season of elegance.
What are some of the distinctive features of TFS jewels and what materials afford their best expression?
The Fifth Season by Roberto Coin is jewelry labeled Roberto Coin, a hidden ruby. I wanted to ensure that the new brand received all the attention and research previously dedicated exclusively to gold and gemstone jewelry, thus preserving and transferring them to materials like silver, the basis for each TFS collection by Roberto Coin.
Is there a stylistic fil rouge that somehow connects it to or juxtaposes it to the Roberto Coin trademark?
High quality, manufacturing mastery and the same soul as in all Roberto Coin jewelry. The TFS collections by Roberto Coin are stylistically presented with forms that are extreme and unique, an avant-garde characteristic which maintains that fil rouge with antique elegance. I like to imagine a magic mix of tradition and modern, unsurmountable style.
What pushed you into this new adventure?
I wanted to surprise myself and my clients, invent something that did not exist and find a specific market for it.
You are an educated man. How much does that influence the creation of a new jewelry collection?
My inspiration comes from the natural world and my own life, my experiences and journeys. The novelty of the new brand lies in the one who really created it, and that is my son Carlo who has been a fundamental member of our production chain for a while. Carlo is able to materialize precisely my every intuition and he coordinates the technique for my idea with young, determined energy.
Why do you think women choose TFS jewelry?
Because it represents elegance and grace in modern luxury that is not linked to price but rather to an attitude that is innate and precious.
What is/are your market niche(s)? Development plans?
TFS by Roberto Coin was successfully launched in Europe, the United States, and Russia, and now we are looking towards China and the Emirates.
What is a jewel for you? Is there a piece or collection in your ‘jewelry box’ that you are particularly attached to?
Jewelry is a symbol of excellence in beauty and emotion, blended and portrayed in the most meaningful and precious way. I am never attached to any particular collection already created, I look to the future and to the collections Carlo and I will create.
Do you have an icon or an inspirational muse you would like to see wearing a TFS jewel?
Women who are modern and classy, young in spirit and timelessly elegant.
